Research
Bio-engineering nursing
In our research we collaborate across engineering and biology to develop advanced monitoring and preventive care systems based on clinical data. We use ultrasound technology, robotics, and other advanced technologies to elucidate key mechanisms and factors to adress pressing nursing issues. We aply our results clinically through rapid 3D prototyping, software development, design development, production, and testing. Our work has yeilded numerous patents and comercialized products that are currently being applied in clinical settings.
Family Nursing
We approach nursing research from the scope of family nursing. We focus on supporting the entire family while caring and guiding them through difficult health problems that arrize. We recognize that some family members may be especially vulnerable at different life stages and may need help performing various tasks required during different developmental periods. We aim to empower families to adapt and heal after illness while maintaining their social life and sucial supports. Our research focuses on attachement and family resiliance with a particular concentration on mental health during the family formation period. We also look at how childcare is imacted by childhood cancers in the unique cultural context of Japan.
Long-term care
Our research aims to maximize the quality of life of older people, whether living in their homes or at care institutions. We work with older people and their families is guided by our belief in cultural diversity, individual uniqueness, and a holistic approach to nursing care. We aim to develop theoretical models to explain the phenomena of human disease, suffering, aging, and how we can take care of others. By utilizing a wide range of research methodologies and collaborating with national and international health and research entities, we ground our models in the reality of clinical healthcare systems. We are driven to construct a culturally sensitive knowledge base for the discipline of nursing.
Midwifery and
women’s health
Establishing a knowledge base for midwifery methodologies is the goal of our research. Through this, we aim to strengthen women and their newborns by encouraging power and endurance for both mother and child during the birthing process, as well as to aid in their ability to live fulfilling lives. We strive to systematize the science of midwifery and build a body of evidence applicable to the phases of mothers’ and infants’ lives including pregnancy, intrapartum, postpartum, and childrearing, which is essential for solving the universal challenges of pregnancy and childbirth. We use various research methods including field work, biochemistry, and physiology to clarify the dynamic processes of motherhood. Finally, we disseminate our results by publishing and training nurse-midwives based on the evidence we observe.
Nursing management
Our work focus on the development of new models and techniques of nursing that support people’s health in a changing society. We aim to maximize the power of nursing by preparing a better system and environment. Among the sophistication of medical technology, the diversification of the patient living environment, and changes in the type of support patients required, we are accutely aware that the needs of nursing staff are also evolving. In order to grapple with these challanges, our research strives to problem-solve at the management level. Our work has produced many upcoming leaders who are driving the development of the Japanese nursing field.
Mental health
We leverage the knowledge and techniques of public health to investigate and better the mental health of all. We work to elucidate the determinants of mental health from a broad perspective including a wholistic view of the life course and social determinants of health. Using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-nethod research methodologies, we adress a wide range of topics to support people with mental health challanges including, recovery from mental health difficulties, self-management strategies, peer support, and community life. Our research projects have also focused on mental health considerations for people with physical illnesses such as diabetes or substance dependence. By training our students we seek to cultivate researchers and leaders in the fields of mental health and psychiatric nursing who can play an active role on the international stage.
Community health
We think about nusing care the supports the health of the whole community. In order to promote nursing in the community, our work includes research, education, and social contributions aimed at finding sustainable solutions to issues of community health. We also focus on bettering the support methods provided to clinical nurses and public health nurses. Our research project touch a variety of public health nurse topics including the development of community care systems, maternal and child health activities, support for mental health, elderly health care, responce and care during emergency disasters. Our research results have directly improved the health, medial, and welfare systems of local governements in Japan. Specifically, our program boast having critically impacted the revision of medical fees.
