Yuriko Usui

Midwifery and Women's Health
Dr. Yuriko Usui is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Midwifery and Women’s Health at UTokyo. She received her PhD in Health Sciences, which a specialty in perinatal mental health. Her current research focuses on supportive care for mothers who experience the fear of childbirth. Her research identifies pregnant women with severe fears and investigates the corresponding causes and consequences of such fear. She aims to construct and implement midwifery care that will help women be healthy physically and mentally so that they can better enjoy an enriching new life with their babies.
Dr. Usui is also engaged in nursing education. She has written book chapters on parental bonding, teaches undergraduate nursing and graduate midwifery courses, and conducts research on e-learning programs. She passionately leverages interdisciplinary collaborations to improve care and support for perinatal mental health.
