Yuka Sumikawa

Gerontological Home Care and Long-term Care/Palliative Care Nursing
Dr. Yuka Sumikawa is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Gerontological Home Care and Long-term Care Nursing/Palliative Care Nursing at UTokyo. She has a PhD in Health Sciences with more than 10 years of experience as a registered nurse in a university hospital. She is engaged in undergraduate and graduate nursing research education and her research interests include transitional care and home care nursing.
Dr. Sumikawa uses an interdisciplinary approach in her transitional care projects. To help more patients receive optimal transitional support, she aims to build the evidence base for effective nursing care. Recently, she has also been working as a staff of the Infectious disease Health Emergency Assistance Team (I-HEAT) for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). In this capacity she compiled a survey of Japanese public health nurse activities during the COVID-19 vortex, which has disseminated health care systems domestically and internationally.
