Dr. Miyuki Muramoto is a Project Assistant Professor in the Global Nursing Research Center. After graduating from Keio University, she obtained licenses as a nurse, midwife, and public health nurse. After about 6 years of clinical experience in pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology, she completed her master’s and doctoral studies in the Department of Family Nursing at UTokyo and received her PhD (Health Sciences). Her research interests include self-compassion of parents during the perinatal period, especially of new parents expecting their first child. In her master’s program, she conducted a cross-sectional observational study on the degree of postpartum self-compassion among mothers who experienced various difficulties during pregnancy in the spread of COVID-19 infection. In her doctoral research, she developed a self-compassion-based program as a childbirth and parenting preparation program for first-time couples (a convergent mixed study). In particular, she implemented a pioneering evaluation approach using realist evaluation methods. She plans to build knowledge and establish a parenting preparation program so that parents in the perinatal and early parenting periods can treat themselves in a compassionate manner in difficult moments.
