Dr. Megumi Haruna is Professor of the Department of Midwifery and Women’s Health at UTokyo. She teaches certified midwifery education at the master’s level and has supervised 14 doctoral students and 37 master students.Her research activities provide sustainable evidence-based strategies for high-quality midwifery care aimed to improve maternal and child health.
Dr. Haruna has organized an interdisciplinary collaborative research team to identify and test healthy lifestyle interventions during pregnancy and postpartum. Recently, she has been leading the Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study (J-PEACH study) to investigate physiological and psychosocial factors related to proper perinatal nutrition, physical activity, and optimal weight changes among pregnant and postpartum women toward improving pregnancy and birth outcomes. She conducts international collaborative research to identify the key elements of the fear of childbirth (FOC) and to create a positive childbirth experience. She is passionate about establishing evidence for effective intrapartum care for a positive childbirth experience in the face of FOC.
She is an Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Japan Academy of Midwifery and a Chief Editor for the Journal of Japan Academy of Nursing Science. She also serves as an Editor/Assistant Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Japan Society of Maternal Health and an Editor for Nutrients MDPI.
