Mari Ikeda

Dr. Mari Ikeda is a professor of the Department of Family Nursing at UTokyo. She has supervised many graduate research students and has been both the internal and external examiner for many PhD dissertations.
Dr. Ikeda is a nursing researcher with a uniquely integrated career. Her diverse work experience includes product development and marketing, clinical psychological counseling for mothers and children, and a career at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Dr. Ikeda has developed a program to investigate and address postpartum depression in new mothers, and how this affects the family on a broader level. She took the findings from her program development study and incorporated these lessons into group therapy for cancer patients and families. Dr. Ikeda has expertise in a range of research methodologies including quantitative, qualitative, and observational interview methods. She offers training sessions for Attachment Style Interview (ASI) for building secure foundational relationships.
Dr. Ikeda is currently the Chair of both the East Asia Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) and the International Activity Promotion Committee for the Japan Academy of Nursing Science (JANS).
