Reporting Guidelines: An Overview

Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, PhD, Project Senior Lecturer in Global Nursing Research Center

The American Journal of Nursing publishes a series of articles on clinical research designed to help nurses understand the essential concepts and principles of research (available at: https://links.lww.com/AJN/A204). Dr. Sameh Eltaybani has contributed to this series with an article on reporting guidelines. A reporting guideline is a structured, clearly organized tool that outlines the minimum set of information required to ensure a research report can be understood, replicated, and applied. To date, more than 600 reporting guidelines have been developed, and several new ones are currently in progress. In his article, Dr. Eltaybani explains the importance of reporting guidelines, their development process, and how to select and use them appropriately. The article is aimed at novice nurse researchers and serves as one of the most comprehensive resources available on the key aspects of reporting guidelines.
