Insights from the top-cited papers in the critical care nursing literature: Abibliometric and visualized analysis

Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, PhD, Project Senior Lecturer in Global Nursing Research Center

Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, Senior Lecturer at the Global Nursing Research Center, in collaboration with Dr. Natalie McEvoy from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, has recently published a study in Nursing in Critical Care that sheds light on key trends in critical care nursing research. The study analyzed the most-cited papers from leading journals and found that half of these papers focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, with mental health being a major topic. Research articles, especially those published as open-access, were cited more often, showing how freely accessible knowledge can reach a wider audience and have a greater impact. The findings also highlighted the value of global collaboration in nursing research and pointed to the need for more representation from developing regions in shaping the future of healthcare.
