Workplace social capital mediates the relationship between authentic leadership and three dimensions of organizational commitment of hospital nurses: A cross-sectional study

Dr. Ryohei Kida, PhD, RN Assistant Professor in Department of Nursing Adminisration and Advanced Clinical Nursing

In previous studies, Dr. Kida and colleagues have identified antecedents of workplace social capital in the nursing profession. This paper examines the impact of workplace social capital on the positive job psychological state of nurses. Of job psychological status, organizational commitment is particularly important in nursing management because it is a variable that predicts turnover in the nursing profession. Dr. Kida and colleagues found that of the three dimensions of organizational commitment, workplace social capital effects only positive commitment, that is, affective and normative commitment. This finding provided an important perspective on nurse retention.
