Candidate biomarkers for hard-to-heal wounds revealed by single-cell RNA sequencing of wound fluid in murine wound models

Wound healing is often delayed by factors like high blood sugar, chronic inflammation, and aging. This study used single-cell RNA sequencing of wound fluid cells to find common biomarkers in three delayed wound models: aging, diabetes, and inflammation. The research found increased senescence-related genes and decreased immune regulation genes, especially in macrophages, suggesting cellular senescence in wound fluid might be a factor in hard-to-heal wounds.
