On October 9, 2023, at the 37th Japan Academy of Midwifery in TOKYO 2023, Ms. Riko Ohori, a special research fellow at the Global Nursing Research Center (GNRC), was awarded the Best Presentation Award. Ms. Ohori conducted research on the postpartum weight of women, elucidating the characteristics of postpartum weight changes in Japanese women and factors related to those changes. As there are currently no established criteria or optimal timing for evaluating postpartum weight, and given the prevalence of lower body weight in Japanese women compared to other countries, applying the same standards as other nations may not be appropriate. Therefore, this study serves as a crucial first step in examining the evaluation criteria and timing for postpartum weight in Japan. Ms. Ohori expressed her commitment to continue this research, aiming to apply the results to health guidance in clinical settings.
