This study developed and validated a Negative Emotion Scale for Public Health Nurses engaged in child abuse prevention. Using a four-phase mixed-method design, we created the scale based on literature reviews, expert evaluations, interviews, and pilot testing. In a nationwide survey of public health nurses, factor analyses identified two dimensions: “negative emotions toward aggressive and emotional attitudes” and “negative emotions toward rejecting and uncooperative attitudes.” The scale demonstrated high reliability and good construct validity. By quantifying the difficult emotions that public health nurses experience in supporting families at risk of abuse, this tool offers valuable insights into emotional burdens that may affect the quality of care.
