The University of Tokyo Hospital Nursing Department x UTokyo GNRC: “Shining in the community! Let’s think together about sparkling ideas for the nursing profession” Event Report

2024/08/26

On July 24, 2024, the Nursing Department of the University of Tokyo Hospital and UTokyo GNRC organized a joint workshop entitled “Shining in the community! Let’s think together about sparkling ideas for the nursing profession” A total of 30 participants, mostly nurses, exchanged opinions on the possibilities of community-based nursing.

The workshop started with a warm welcome from Dr Takemura, Director of Nursing Department of The University of Tokyo Hospital, followed by an introduction from Dr Yamamoto-Mitani, UTokyo GNRC Director, on the organization and goals of the project. The participants were divided into groups to share their own nursing experiences and freely discuss new ways of nursing that can contribute to the local community.

The richness of the participants’ ideas and experiences made us, the members of UTokyo GNRC, proud to be part of the nursing profession and gave us many tips for our future activities. We would like to thank everyone for sharing this opportunity with us.

At the end of the event, a commemorative photo was taken with all the participants and we ended the event with smiles on our faces. We will continue to organize opportunities like this on a regular basis to think with you about the future of the community-based nursing profession.

Hosted by UTokyo GNRC: Report on Bunkyo-Mejirodai Community Development Workshop

2024/08/15

On July 1, 2024, the “Bunkyo-Mejirodai Community Development Workshop” was held at the Mejirodai Campus of the University of Tokyo. Here is a brief report on the day of the workshop, which was attended by a total of 51 people, including residents of the neighborhood and those involved in healthcare-related activities.

First, we introduced an overview of the UTokyo GNRC x Mejirodai Project and shared with everyone the current status of health-related information in Bunkyo Ward through poster displays. Afterwards, in a world café-style discussion, the participants confirmed once again the wonderful points of Bunkyo Ward (Mejirodai) with the aim of making it “the longest city in Japan in terms of happy life expectancy,” and freely exchanged opinions on what we can do and what is necessary for people to live happily in this city in the future.

The lively comments and expressions of the participants strongly motivated us, the members of UTokyo GNRC, to further promote the Mejirodai Project. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to you all for your valuable time.

At the end of the workshop, we took a commemorative photo holding the ideas collected by each group! We plan to hold more workshops in the future.

Action for “Realization of Wellness Society Project”

UTokyo Nursing, along with the Global Nursing Research Center (GNRC) plan to construct a community based, university-affiliated research facility under the plan titled “Realization of Wellness Society Project”.

This plan will not only build a physical facility, but will build up the social community as this will be a place where implementation research can support the well-being of all generations. The project activities will center around 3 (tentative) programs that will:

1) treat in-patients at the facility “Living Infirmary”
2) spread knowledge about care by creating a system for certifying care literacy “Care Literacy Certification System”, and
3) support the medical and nursing staff “Support for Medical and Nursing Professionals”.

These programs will be implemented using traditional face-to-face means, extended reality means (including augmented and virtual realities), and digital community building mediums such as social media.

To be started in 2025

A Hybrid complex incorporating nursing homes, clinics, daycare, and GNRC research office.
