This scoping review elucidated the methodologies used in studies of self-performed US. The potential for advancement of self-performed ultrasound is high, especially with the implementation of standardized educational programs and the integration of remote imaging evaluation alongside AI-assisted interpretation systems. The widespread adoption of self-performed ultrasound in the future could enable certain ultrasound examinations in environments lacking medical professionals, potentially aiding in diagnosis, assessment and health management. Nonetheless, further research is required to determine the feasibility of self-performed ultrasound across various subjects and settings.
