Effectiveness of an online Japanese version of the mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting programme on prenatal mental health: A single group clinical trial

Dr. Ayumi Tanke, MD,PhD,Third year doctoral student of Department of midwifery and women’s health

Pregnant women frequently experience psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, and excessive fear of childbirth. Non-pharmacological approaches for improving the mental health of pregnant women are increasingly needed in public health. Dr. Ayumi Tanke, who completed her Doctoral degree in the Department ofMidwifery and Women’s health, published a research paper in Midwifery based on her master thesis. In her study, Dr.Tanke developed a short online Japanese version of the mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting programme, and investigated its effectiveness in improving mental health after intervention. Remarkably, this paper is the first mindfulness intervention trial for pregnant women in Japan, and she conducted a randomized controlled trial to determine the effectiveness of this research program as her doctoral research. It is also currently being prepared for publication.
