2023 Spring International Program at UTokyo Nursing: Innovative Approaches and Methodologies in Nursing Science

We held the 2023 Spring International Program from March 13 to 15, 2023. The program’s theme was “Innovative Approaches and Methodologies in Nursing Science.” The program aimed to provide opportunities for postgraduate students to learn and share innovative approaches and methodologies in nursing science. It also aimed to promote international collaborative activities and lay the foundation for future collaborative research. The program was held onsite, and a total of 32 students and three faculty members from 11 universities, as well as UTokyo Nursing students and faculty members, participated.
The three-day program included various activities that engaged the participants and provided them with valuable learning experiences. For instance, A Virtual Reality (VR) Simulation hands-on seminar was held to demonstrate using virtual reality technology to foster empathy for people with dementia. A Skin/Wound Blotting and Ultrasonography hands-on seminar was also held to introduce the innovative fields of visualized nursing and robotics nursing and the application of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in nursing care. Further, a Career Cartography interactive session was held to help participants map their career paths and identify opportunities for growth and development.
Field trips were made to provide participants with opportunities to observe the daily operations of healthcare and community facilities and interact with professionals. For example, participants had the opportunity to visit Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center, an experiential facility designed to provide disaster preparedness knowledge and techniques, and Sakamachi-Mimoza-no-ie, a multifunctional long-term care facility that shows the uniqueness of the community-based integrated care system in Japan. Participants also could visit a number of health centers, such as Ikebukuro Public Health Center, Yotsuya Public Health Center, and Otowa Birth Center.
Furthermore, participants could visit Tokyo Soteria Social Firm and The University of Tokyo Hospital. The 2023 Spring International Program at UTokyo Nursing was a great success, and we are thankful to all participants. The event provided an excellent opportunity for networking and building relationships among scholars from various universities and countries and for gaining valuable knowledge and insights on innovative approaches and methodologies in nursing science. With the success of this program, UTokyo Nursing has demonstrated its commitment to promoting international collaboration and advancing the field of nursing science.
