Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, Project Lecturer in the Global Nursing Research (GNRC)

Large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Bing Chat, have gained popularity worldwide, and several researchers have discussed their potential use and impact in healthcare. Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, Project Lecturer of Global Nursing Research Center, wrote a guest editorial for Nursing in Critical Care, the official journal of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses, about the capabilities and limitations of using LLM in critical care research. Dr. Eltaybani provided several examples of how LLMs can foster researchers’ productivity and, at the same time, how and why researchers should be cautious when using such technologies. “It is crucial for researchers to view LLMs as tools that enhance their work rather than substitutes for their expertise,” said Dr. Eltaybani.
