Effectiveness of home visit nursing on improving mortality, hospitalization, institutionalization, satisfaction, and quality of life among older people: Umbrella review

Dr. Sameh Eltaybani of the Global Nursing Research Center published his umbrella review in
Geriatric Nursing

Dr. Sameh Eltaybani, a Project Lecturer at the Global Nursing Research Center, and his research
colleagues recognized the inconsistency in the methods and results of previous systematic
reviews that examined the effectiveness of home visit nursing for older people. Therefore, Dr.
Eltaybani and colleagues used a systematic approach to find and synthesize published systematic
reviews on the effectiveness of home visit nursing on five outcomes: admission to a hospital,
admission to nursing homes or other long-term care facilities, mortality, satisfaction, and quality
of life.
In 2022, Dr. Eltaybani and colleagues published their research plan in JBI Evidence Synthesis.
Recently, the research team completed their report and published it in Geriatric Nursing. The
research team searched eight bibliographic databases and reviewed 2,336 documents. The
researchers found that home visit nursing for older people reduces their admission to the
hospital. The researchers also recognized several drawbacks in previous research on that topic.
Our work revealed the lack of underlying theoretical foundations in most studies evaluating
home visit nursing. We also found that older people’s satisfaction as an outcome of home visit nursing was rarely examined. We outlined a number of implications to improve the quality of future research in this area
,” reported Dr. Eltaybani.
