Family Nursing
Dr. Mayumi Morisaki-Nakamura is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Family Nursing at UTokyo. Her research interests focus on the transitional support from the pediatric to adult healthcare systems among adolescents with childhood-onset chronic diseases (CCDs). Her goal is to establish a seamless healthcare system to maximize their lifelong physical, mental, and social functioning.
One of Dr. Morisaki-Nakamura’s cross-disciplinary collaborations created a transitional support program for adolescents with CCDs to foster their self-management skills and independence and evaluated its efficacy using a randomized controlled trial. Currently, she is working on interview studies for parents of patients with CCDs to clarify the relationship between the parents’ involvement and the patients’ self-care skills.
Dr. Morisaki-Nakamura has published these projects regarding transition among adolescents with CCDs in peer-reviewed journals and her research expertise has been recognized with international and domestic awards from the East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars and the Japanese Society of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. She has secured three funding grants, including the Grant in Aid for Scientific Research for Research Activity Start-up.
