
Yuko Mugita

Gerontological Nursing/Wound Care Management
Dr. Yuko Mugita is an Assistant Professor of Department of Gerontological Nursing/Wound Care Management at UTokyo. She received her PhD in Health Sciences and teaches undergraduate nursing education and mentors graduate students.
Dr. Mugita’s main research interest is the prevention and management of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). She uses nursing science and engineering methods to conduct this research. She has established animal models of IAD and used them to elucidate molecular mechanisms. She is implementing these research findings by working with industry partners to develop new preventative products. Beyond IAD efforts, she is involved in a wide range of elderly care projects at the UTokyo Hospital on skin care and wounds including pressure ulcers.
Dr. Mugita currently serves on the Japan Academy of Nursing Science’s Committee for the Promotion of Young Research Activities. She is also a member of many other national academic societies including the Japanese Society for Pressure Ulcers, the Japanese Society for Wound, Ostomy and Incontinence Management, and the Society for Nursing Science and Engineering.
