Noriko Yamamoto-Mitani
Dr. Noriko Yamamoto-Mitani is a Professor of Gerontological Homecare and Long-term Care Nursing and the Director of the Global Nursing Research Center (GNRC) and Head of the Graduate School of Health Science and Nursing at UTokyo. She received her Bachelorʼ s and Masterʼ s degrees in Health Science from The University of Tokyo, Japan, and her PhD in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco. She also completed the post-master nurse practitioner program at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Yamamoto-Mitaniʼ s primary research focus is on quality improvement and assurance in long-term care and home care. She has also been engaged in developing a new qualitative research method: meaning-based case study for caring practice.
Dr. Yamamoto-Mitani has worked as an active member of numerous Japanese academic societies including the Academy of Gerontological Nursing, Academy of Home Care Nursing, and the Academy of Family Nursing for which she hosted the 28th Annual Conference. She served as vice-chair of the Academy of Nursing Sciences (2017-2019) and the Association of Nursing Academies (2019-2020), and served as representative director of the Association of Nursing Programs in Universities (2020-2022). She currently serves as vice president of the Japanese Nursing Association and is involved in numerous governmental committees.
