This study is a prospective cohort study that examined the extent to which technical performance evaluated by the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) predicts actual image acquisition success in infant hip ultrasound examinations conducted by public health nurses. Hip ultrasound examinations performed by public health nurses during community-based maternal and child health activities, such as newborn home visits and infant health checkups, were analyzed to assess the association between OSCE performance and successful acquisition of standard images.
The results demonstrated that nurses with higher OSCE scores were more likely to consistently obtain appropriate ultrasound images in clinical practice. These findings suggest that OSCE serves not only as an educational assessment tool but also as a potential quality assurance indicator for nurse-led ultrasound screening in community settings.
