Two articles featuring Associate Professor Kyoko Yoshioka-Maeda’s research team were published on Tamago Club & Hiyoko Club (TamahiYo), Japan’s largest parenting information platform, introducing efforts to promote the prevention and early detection of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The articles clearly explain essential knowledge and practical prevention tips that parents can apply in daily childcare.
The articles also highlight a collaborative initiative with municipalities in Okinawa and Aichi Prefectures, in which public health nurses use portable ultrasound devices during newborn home visits and childcare consultations to assess infant hip development. When abnormalities are suspected, nurses coordinate with pediatric orthopedic surgeons to ensure timely referral and early medical evaluation. This initiative has attracted attention as a new community-based maternal and child health model that enables early detection and prevention of DDH even in remote areas with limited medical resources.
